The stamps are inscribed 'Poste Vaticane' and 'Anno Santo MCML' (Holy Year, 1950). The postal value is located either at the top left or top right of the stamp. The stamps are perforated 14 x 14 and measure 3 cm x 4 cm. Each carries the winged wheel watermark.

Anno Santo Green essay, 1933
Anno Santo essay was created in 1933 for a 0.25L + 10C green stamp that celebrated Holy Year 1933-1934. In the Roman catholic tradition, a Holy Year, or Jubilee is a great religious event.
The design of this essay features a Cross and Orb within a large oval, with Latin inscription "CRUX AVE SPES UNICA" meaning "HAIL TO THE CROSS, OUR ONLY HOPE."

The 5-lire (red-orange) value is a drawing of the nave of the Basilica of St. Praxedes (Prassede).
The 1-, 3-, 5-, and 8-lire stamps are vertical in design; the other issues are horizontal. The 100-lire stamp is perforated 14 x 14. All other stamps are issued in two different perforation measurements, 14 x 13.5 and 13.5 x 14. The vertical stamps measure 3 x 4 cm. The horizontal stamps measure 4 x 3 cm. All issues are watermarked with the Crossed Keys of St. Peter.
